Woven into the text are vignettes from the author's incredible life story about the redemption of God through loss, pain, suffering and weaknesses, while reflecting his lifelong passion for evangelism and missions, especially to the marginalized – those very people to whom Jesus devoted most of His time and attention.
Author Bio Dan'l C. Markham has devoted his professional life to planting and growing churches and nonprofit Christian ministries. An ordained Baptist minister most recently Dan'l served as Director of Partner Engagement at OneHope, a worldwide ministry bringing God's word and hope to millions of young people every year. Previous to OneHope Dan'l served at Joni and Friends from 2001 to 2010, as Director of U.S. Field Services and then Managing Director of Field Services. Rev. Markham has served as a nonprofit executive director, Washington State county commissioner, director at an international Christian relief organization. He has authored numerous newspaper and journal articles and was a contributing author for Disability Advocacy Among Religious Organizations – Histories and Reflections. Markham's first book The Cultic Phenomenon A Revealing Look at Ourselves (Lion Publishing) covers the misuse and abuse of religious power. Dan'l and his wife, Colette, have seven daughters and six grandchildren. Dan'l loves to laugh, make people laugh, write and ride the open road on his motorcycle.

Jesus then gives the parable of The Large Banquet in Luke 14 where He states "Go out quickly into the streets and alleys of the city and bring in here the poor, maimed, blind and lame!" God wants everyone at His banquet, but He especially has a heart for the weaker people, the ones society quite often ignores. They also need to hear the way to salvation and reconciliation with God thru Jesus' work at the cross and if they are not told about the cross, they are forever separated from God. Reading THE LOST MANDATE will take you on a journey to deeper knowledge and understanding of sacrifice, discipleship and the cost of such. His transparency strengthens and motivates Christ followers to live what scripture says in Matthew 1624, "Then Jesus said to His disciples, "If anyone would come after me, He must deny himself and take up His cross and follow Me."
As a ministry leader to people in nursing homes, this work has encouraged, inspired, and pushed me forward in keeping the promise to care for those God calls us to love in Luke 14 and passages such as Matthew 2540 (the least of these). We learn biblical truths, peppered with personal testimony, and strong reasoning for carrying out the Luke 14 Mandate. Thank you Dan'l for the loyalty to your calling.
I love this book! It has a solid Foundation, based upon the Word of God. The style of writing keeps reminding me of the basics of life. The Author's servant heart is revealed throughout the book, and it serves as a clear reminder of what a servant heart should look like. The book has revealed to me and it has become clear that just as Christ has used Disabilities two thousand years ago in order to set the evidence of His Gospel, so will He use Disability to proclaim His Gospel Message on all four corners of the Earth, now and in the time to come!
This is a must read for everyone who calls themselves a Christian. I think this book is alot about where the rubber meets the road in our "Christian Communities.
This book really brings home what God thinks of people with disabilities. Dan'l did his homework in researching the scriptures. Love Nick V. At the end of every chapter. A must read for those doing disability ministry and those thinking about it.
Dan'l and Nick's collaboration is amazing! It reveals to Christ-followers the mandate to reach those who are most disenfranchised in our culture . . . not because of sympathy, but out of obedience to what Jesus taught in Luke 14. This will challenge any Christ-follower who is serious about being obedient to Jesus. Their insights in the Biblical challenge is a breath of fresh air into the parable of the great banquet. Dan'l and Nick, thank you for writing this precious book.
