This story kept me reading until 2am and then finishing it up the next night. I loved the pace and the characters, particularly Emma, an early feminist who's fearless in her detective ventures. I appreciated all the historical facts woven into the story too. As a male author, I felt Mr. Neale had good empathy in developing Emma's mindset and difficulties in dealing with her family problems but showing her amazing strength in overcoming a hard beginning. I was sad this book ended as I would like to see how he develops her character and story into the future. A delightful production for this first time e-book author and hopefully more to follow. Would definitely recommend this e-book for women and older girls and anyone that would enjoy reading about life in 1908 in Seattle and enjoy reading a different slant on an early, empowered woman in a man's career in 1908! very enjoyable and enlightening elements of turn of the century Seattle area including treatment for the mentally ill as well as mountain climbing. It has a lot to offer and is an easy read.
I wanted to put a comment out to you all about Roger Neale's novel "Lifters". I want all who care to know what a
wonderfully written book this man created!!!!! It is beautifully and precisely written and a great read! The characters are well developed and the plot line encourages you to read on! His writing style reminds of Harlan Coben. The writing just moves you through the story. It was an absolute delight!
And, to all those very strong women with us, the main character is a delightfully strong and intelligent woman!
A tremendous amount of the 1906 history of Seattle is throughout the story. Hard to tell what is story and what is history! I suspect lot of research went into this missive!!! Kudos, Roger!!!! Really!
